The Vantec AVOX|Jukebox come with a remote
control that will rival the one you use on your TV
or DVD player if you would like to learn all of the
functions that the remote has at hand you can visit
Vantec's web site and take a look at the AVOX|Jukebox's manual.
This unit is no cheap piece of
plastic folks it is constructed of nice solid
aluminum and has a very nice black finish
meaning it should fit in with just about any decor
that you have. As far as the size of the unit,
it measures 3.15” x 5.83” x 0.94" which means it is
quite a bit smaller than a VHS tape, but yet with a
hard drive in it it should stay where you put it as
long as you don't go nuts and start pulling on the
cables..
It's rather hard to tell what the
lights are from the photo so i will use this picture
take from the manual so you have a better idea of
how things are laid out on the front and back of the
unit. The first two lights are pretty well
self-explanatory the third one is IR LED and the
square window is an IR receiving window for remote
signals.
Once again due to the fact that
the marking on
the rear of the unit are not that legible I took a
picture from the manual which has the connection
clearly marks for you. From left to right we
have the USB 2.0 connector followed by the 5 volt DC
power connector. The next connector has a dual
purpose, you can connect coaxial cable for 5.1 ch.
digital audio output or connect an external remote
control IR receiver. The next connector is
where you will connect you component . The
last one is for connecting an AV cable for composite
video
Inserting the hard drive into the
AVOX couldn't be easier, simply remove the rear
cover surrounding the connectors then lift the lid
up and slide it toward the rear then lift the
circuit board out of the open case and plug the hard
drive into the the connector on the end of the
board. Then using the four screws
provided with the unit secure the hard drive to
circuit board by screwing the hard drive down using
the bottom hole on the hard drive.
It should be noted that the
decoder chip used is the Sigma Design EM8511, this
is the same chip that is being used by countless
other companies now introducing the same type of
item but generally at about a $30.00 higher price
tag than the AVOX|Jukebox.
