It took me a while to grasp the
idea that I did not need a computer to use the
AVOX|Jukebox with my TV, all I needed to do was
simply plug it into the composite jacks on the front
of my set. As we go through the next
few screen-shots I should explain that I found it
easier to create a directories on the hard drive for
videos, pictures, and music, it just helps organize
things, you will be able to chose to label your
folders anyway you prefer.
There is not a need for a great
deal of commentary as you look at the pictures since
most of them have a very good explanation of what's
going on.
Using the remote control I was
able to set in my recliner which is about 18' from
where the AVOX|Jukebox was hookup to TV and I had
absolutely no problem accessing any of the function.
Response time to load a 365 MB AVI movie from the
time I
pressed the start button till the time I had full
screen video was probably in the neighborhood of 2
to 3 seconds.
The DVD Manager will play a
ripped DVD just the same as it will a regular DVD,
but you need to do a few steps first. First
make a folder and put all of the ripped DVD files
into it. After connecting the AVOX|Jukebox to
your TV or Monitor select the VIDEO_TS.IFO in the
folder. All of the ripped DVD files must
reside in the same folder as the VIDEO_TS.IFO.
Some of the other things that the
AVOX is capable of doing is running a slide show of
your pictures, this feature is so simple to setup.
Just install all your photos into a directory
perhaps named "Photos", then move over till the
photo tab is selected, used the up and down arrow
keys to select any photo and then hit play - simple
as that.
There are a numerous other
adjustments you can make such as screen size, audio
preferences and the list go on, you can pretty much
set the AVOX|Jukebox up anyway you want.
Conclusion
This has been one of the coolest
items I have ever reviewed, mainly because it is so
simple to use and yet it is capable of doing so
much and does it so well! Who would have ever thought you could
watch a picture slide-show, listens to stack after
stack of MP3s, watch an original DVD or even a
ripped DVD on your TV and do all of this without the aid of a
computer?
If you have a need or can make an
excuse to get one of these babies I suggest you do
it, because I think once the word gets out about the
capabilities of this device they will became very
hard to come by.
The current price for the
Vantec AVOX|Jukebox at Newegg is $119.00 well
within most anyone's budget and this is one item
that if I were you I would ask Santa to put one
under your Christmas tree.
The Vantec AVOX|Jukebox is the
