Topic: Power Supplies
Product: Sunbeam Tech Nuuo 550 watt Power Supply
Provided by: Sunbeam Tech
Reviewer: K. Elliott
Price: $109.00

To see how well the Sunbeam Tech Nuuo 550 watt Power Supply would work under a severe load condition we used three of our favorite programs to stress test any computer with. The first program is Super Pi, a very common program used by the overclocking community to help determine whether or not the memory they are testing is stable.  Memory that is the least bit marginal will always fail this test.  The second program is BurnInTest V4.0 from Passmark Software, this is another piece of software that will bring a computer to its knees if the setting are turned up to the max.  The last program we use is Winstress from Ultra-X, a pure stress testing program which allows you to configure each area of the computer being tested to specify how much utilization the system uses - for our tests all setting were set to 100% utilization.

We have found the best way to record the voltage highs and lows is to use these exact features found in Motherboard Monitor.  The way we ran our test was to first start Super Pi and set it to determine Pi to 64 millions digits, next we started BurnInTest V4.0 followed by Winstress and both of the last two programs were configured to run for 60 minutes.

Voltage Points Vcore LDT +3.3 +5.00 +12.00 Chipset DRAM

Low 1.57 1.17 3.33 5.10 12.21 1.49 2.72

As they say numbers don't lie and these number indicate that the Sunbeam Tech Nuuo is one hell of great power supply no matter what way you look at it.  I t is easily able to meet and exceed the so called standard of 5% tolerances and come closer to a 1% on most of the voltages.  If this power supply is any indication of what the remainder of the units are like a person would almost be foolish not to consider purchasing one of these at the ridiculously low price of $84.00.

CONCLUSION

From it's managed modular cable system right down to the digital control panel the Sunbeam Tech Nuuo does not look like a first time product by any means.  As I mentioned in the review the only flaw I could find was not being able to use the control in 5.25 drive and I hope sunbeam Tech hears my plea.

The cooling system of 120mm and 80mm fan operating in tandem proved to me they were working as I noticed a 1 degree temperature drop in my case and processor after the power supply was installed. Overall for a first effort they have done a tremendous job and I give them a tip of the hat for being brave enough to even venturing into market place that is already filled with PSU makers.  Competitively priced at $84.00 you are going to have to look long and hard to find a power supply that will provide you with this much power and and as many features. My advice if your in need of new power supply add this one to your list to look at.

A special thanks to Sunbeam Tech who graciously provided us this product to review
and a special thanks to Keven and Frank for their help in making this review possible.

You may purchase the Sunbeam Tech  Nuuo at these fine dealers as well as other great product from the their line-up.
