Introduction
|
6-months ago if I wrote one review on
a modular power supply it was really a rarity, now it
seems like these are the only type of power supply any
of the major power supply maker are building. I
can see why they like them and I can also see why the
consumer likes them since I use five of them in the
systems that I have , but the one tall server box I have
still requires a typical wire and plug type power supply
simply because the leads need to be extra long and no
one that I have seen makes an extra long power cable for
the modular supplies so if any major power supply maker
is listening someone is missing the boat by not
designing one of these. The PSU we're
looking at today is from E-Power and this happens to be
the first product we have reviewed for them as well.
The PSU is named The Silent Engine Tiger 550, the name
has a bit of an Asian ring to it since they seem to
favor naming products after animals or fish. The
Tiger has support for SLI and some other heavy-duty gear
with 20A on both 12 volt lines. So come on along as we
check the Tiger out and see if roars or see if ends up
being a kitty. |
