AeroCool prides itself on the packaging of all of its
products and the Xfire is no
different, even though it may come in a small cardboard carton the
artwork used on it makes carton really standout I'm quite positive it
will generate attention on the store shelves. The side-panels not
only display the heatsink so that the would be shopper can see exactly
what they might be purchasing but they also provide a wealth of
information about the heatsink and fan so the that the customer is given
all the information they need to make a informed purchasing decision.
Removing the Xfire
from the carton you will see that the heatsink comes fully assembled
except for the mounting brackets for which there are two included with
the heatsink. You can immediately see the 120mm fan that mounted
to the top of the Xfire and it is
held in place by four screws that are anchored into the metal fan shroud
the surrounds the upper portion of the heatsink. The metal shroud
is held in place by screwing it the fins of the heatsink and thus
provides a very solid means of anchoring the fan and shroud to the heatsink.
As was mentioned in the specifications the total fin
count on the Xfire is 50 + or - one
fin,
each fin is spaced approximately 2mm apart through
them runs the dual 6mm heatpipes. The heatpipe is pressed onto
each of the fins whereas a soldered joint would have offered a better
means of conducting heat away from the heatpipe but one must realize
that it would also have increased the cost of the heatsink
proportionately.
