Testing Software Winstress
S&M
Sisoft Sandra Burnin Wizard

The three programs I have chosen to use to test the eXtreme Power 600W are all programs that have the ability to stress the system the power supply will be installed in to the max.

Winstress from our friends at Ultra-X Incorporated uses advanced simulation means whereby you can stress test the overall performance and stability of a computer under normal and excessive loads to ensure that critical information and services are available at speeds your customers expect.

Stress tests are designed to find the failure limits of a computer by simultaneously exercising all major components of the system including: CPU, FPU, MMX, RAM, Hard Disks, CD ROMs/DVD/CDR, Floppy disk, 2D and 3D graphics, Sound card, Printers, COM ports and Network adapters and its subsystems. Stress tests can be set to run loops, so every time a test finishes it restarts automatically. This continues until the test is manually stopped or until the system crashes, whichever comes first.

S & M is just what the name implies it will literally beat your machine up, this is a small program from a Russian developer that works both your processor and your memory, plus it has the feature of being able to monitor key voltage rails as you conduct your tests.

The last program need no introduction and that is Sisoft Sandra's Burnin Wizard, this may be one of the most popular software programs for stressing testing systems available.

The test will be ran in two stages, the first will simply involve installing the power supply and starting the computer and allowing it to idle for 1 hour to establish a baseline voltage reading for all of our test points.

The second stage of the test will involve the use of the three programs I mentioned earlier as we start them and allow them to run simultaneously for 30 minutes at which time I will once again record the voltage using Motherboard Monitor.

One nice feature of the DFI NF4 motherboard is the fact that it has so many points at which you can monitor the voltage thus making it nearly the ideal motherboard for testing power supplies with.  Here is what my dashboard looks like on my computer during the test for this particular power supply and below are the actual voltages for eXtreme Power 600W as they were recorded by Motherboard Monitor.

I guess surprised would be a good word to describe how I felt when I saw the numbers the eXtreme Power 600W produced after thirty minutes.  Any doubts I might of had about missing parts causing thing to not work right had been laid to rest with numbers that are just about as good as any power supplies I have tested in the last few months.

  Low High Δ
Vcore 1.46 1.47 0.01
LDT Voltage 1.15 1.18 0.03
+3.3 3.18 3.34 0.16
+5.00 5.05 5.08 0.03
+12.00 11.95 12.01 0.06
Chipset 1.47 1.49 0.02
DRAM 2.50 2.51 0.01

Cooler Master has produced a power supply that in my opinion is suited for the average gamer due to the lack of SLI or Crossfire support, though it is nice to see three SATA connectors instead of two as some supplies are still limited too. I will give Cooler Master high marks for their packaging, which is always some of the best on the market with its easy to read information and slick product display.

If you need a power supply that can provide you with some amazingly tight numbers and don't mind sacrificing one PCI-E connector then the Cooler Master eXtreme Power 600W is the perfect choice for you.  You can purchase this power supply today at an unreal price of $89.95 from our friends at ISI Technology, the same people that supplied us with this sample. This is a $10.00 saving off the regular price of $99.00.

A special thanks to ISI Technology who graciously provided us with this sample.
