The KB609 come packaged in a very colorful carton with 3/4 size image of the
keyboard shown of the front, to highlight the illuminated keyboard
Logisys has added a small inset into the picture so you can get a better
view of what the keys will look like when they are illuminated.
The rear of the carton provides a wealth of information
giving the would be buyer such information as
"System Requirement", "Specifications" and "Features". Also included
is photograph of the keyboard with a key showing what each of the key do and
the proper label for them as well.
The KB609 features an extra
“Slim” design with a glossy painting on the top frame and a matte painting
on the lower supporting frame combined with the letter illuminated keys,
which create a contemporary and stylish look which should match most
settings. Having tested numerous keyboard for Logisys in the past I
can say without a doubt their best effort so far.
The design is sexy black with a built-in non-padded wrist rest, which we
found very comfortable to use. The accessory buttons begin on
the left side of the keyboard and work there way around the top of the
keyboard and are divided into their own separate groupings such MS Office -
Email - Audio/Visual. One other feature of the keyboard
is a special dynamic design that has “Bottom Spill
Resistance” which will reduce the damage to this keyboard if you ever spill
any liquids on it.

The key
illumination you see on the KB609 is a result of
electroluminescent lighting, so what is
electroluminescent lighting?
|
While
electroluminescent (EL) has been around since the
1930's, the technology began to move into mass
production in the late 1980's as a result of
innovations in moisture resistance and color range..
EL lamps are
thin, flexible and light weight . EL lamps can be
tailored for complex shapes for a variety of
backlighting and sign applications. EL lamps are
impact and vibration resistant, require low power
consumption, generate low heat in operation, and are
manufactured using a cost effective screen print
process.
EL inverters convert the input
electricity to the required AC voltage to operate
the lamp. The inverter is critical to the overall
performance factors including, the lamp's
durability, power consumption, size and weight and,
of course, the cost of the completed system.
Operating EL lamps at brighter illumination may
shorten the lamp life. If your design would lend
itself to a flashing light, it would assist in
reducing power consumption, enhance and spotlight
the visual effect, and extend the battery life, but
may add cost and size to the inverter. |

Looking at the back of the KB609 you will see that
there is no place for a battery since the keyboard is powered either by the
PS/2 connector or the PS/2 to USB connector. The are also no fold-down
feet on the keyboard since the angle of the keyboard is pre-determined my
way the board it made. I have no problem with the angle of the board
whereas someone else might find the angle either to steep or not steep
enough.
Now let's talk about the different keys and how they
are separated into different groups. The first group we are
looking at is composed of the five keys on the left side of the
keyboard, their functions starting from the bottom and working towards
the top are as follows. Copy - Mark - Navigation
Wheel - Cut - Paste and finally the Illumination
On-Off switch which also functions as switch to toggle between the
Standard keys and the Enhanced Keys
The
next set of keys are Microsoft Office and Computer Keys -
these key include Word -Excel - Power Point - Calendar - My Computer
- Calculator. These keys are the ones I use daily the most of
any, whether it be checking my email or scheduling and appointment this
one touch feature is so much easier than hunting for a particular icon.
