I may have
told the story about my
experience setting up my ECS KN1
Extreme SLI motherboard with a
pair of 6800GT video cards in it
before but for those that
haven't heard it is worth
telling again. Since I was
building this system from the
ground up I wanted everything to
be pretty much to my liking that
included a pair of Hitachi 500
GB SATA 150 hard drives a
Swiftech Extreme Water Cooling
kit, and for the time being the
two 6600GT video cards until I
found out if SLI was all it was
cracked up to be.
Having
reviewed a number of quality
power supplies over the course
of the last 8 or 9 months I
though it would be a snap to
just pop one of them in and fire
it up and be on my to
benchmarking the system to see
how well it performed. Boy
was I wrong! The first power
supply I installed would start
the system for about 3 second
before it would shut immediately
off. (names have been
left-out to protect the
under-powered) So
I removed that power supply and
tried another, this time things
started out better but didn't
last long, once I began to do
anything that stressed the
system it would either
freeze or re-boot. So this got
me to thinking I had 7 power
supplies why not try them all.
After trying
all seven of the power supplies
three of them would either not
boot the system or operated in a
unsatisfactory condition. So
what does this have to do with
the review we are about to do, I
just wanted to impress upon you
just how important a power
supply can be for your system to
operate properly. It
should be noted that all of
these power supplies were
reviewed and performed fine with
a single video card, one hard
drive. |
