The Titan Eagle Universal VGA Cooler arrived at our
door packaged in such a manner that it took me the
better part of 5 minutes to get to the clamshell
package inside. Titan had done such a great
job packaging the product that it kind of reminded
me of one of those Russian puzzles where you take
the lid off and there is one more piece of the
puzzle to take apart inside of it. Needless to
say I felt like the Energizer Bunny when I finally
got to the unit itself, but it was worth the wait.
I was immediately surprised at how expensive looking the
Eagle Cooler was, the shiny gold finish on it gave it a
very pricey look and from the heft of the package I
could tell that the unit had some parts that were
made of metal and not all plastic. Looking
through the clamshell I could also see that the
Eagle comes with eight - square ram sinks to help
cool memory modules
in an attempt to gain a few MHz
before we start seeing artifacts.
The rear of the package lists the features for the
Titan Eagle in nine different languages as well as
providing all of the specifications and a complete
listing of all of the video cards that the cooler
fits. This information will be quite handy
for those that will be buying this unit at say a
Best Buy or CompUSA where they can actually see that
it will fit the card they have at home.
Measuring the Titan Eagle we found it to be
135mm wide from tip to tip on the widest points
of the wings and 40mm thick from front to back.
The copper contact surface measures 30mm across
and it extends 13mm up from the mounting
bracket. The 80mm diameter fan sets 4mm above
the 64
aluminum fins which are spaced at 4mm at the
tips.
The finish on the base of the Titan Eagle was
found to be nearly perfect, there were no
noticeable machining marks nor scratches or
blemishes anywhere on the contact surface.
The surface was not a perfect mirror finish
which was to our liking since we feel that
anything other than a soft reflection
might be counter-productive and actually reflect
heat back onto the processor.
