The Tagan SP-1000E GuardianX arrived in a very colorful
shipping carton with a nice carrying handle which will come in handy due to the
fact that the overall weight of the power supply is hefty. Tagan does not place
a great deal of information on their cartons and I for one think that this is a
bad idea if they plan to market their power supplies in the USA. Having
worked in advertising for a number of years I learned that the
American buyers likes to see what they are purchasing prior to putting down
their money. This is even more important if the boxes happen to be sealed and
the customer has no way of seeing the product.
One piece of information that is not mentioned on the front of
the carton or anywhere on the carton as far as that goes is the fact that this
power supply is approved by nVidia for SLI operation. That is a very
important piece of information that I feel needs to be added to the from of the
carton.
Looking at the end panel of the carton we can see the amperage rating for
each line on the power supply. What makes this power supply such a beast is
when you look at the 3.3-volt and 5-volt rails and see the total amperage
they can provide which happens to be 170-watts. It wasn't to long ago when
that number itself would have been half the overall output of an
average power supply.
Included with each Tagan power supply is a very complete report generated
prior to the final box-up of the power supply. The report provides a wealth of
information and it will give you a baseline with which you can compare you power
supply to insure that it is working properly. The report is broke down showing
for example it takes 276.3 watts of input power to achieve 200 watt of output
power. It then gives you a breakdown of the fan speed versus the voltage
applied versus the noise it generates.
Tagan made absolutely sure that everything arrived in tiptop shape thanks to
the well padded Styrofoam shipping carton. Beside the use of Styrofoam Tagan
has also covered the main power supply case in a protective coating of
plastic to insure the Styrofoam left no marks on the beautiful power supply
case.
